From South Africa to the snow

Moving to the Netherlands

Since I met the Seeker team late last year (2025) — while I was still living in South Africa — they have been incredibly helpful with every step I took. From making visa appointments on my behalf at the Dutch embassy in South Africa to my arrival in the Netherlands; it was a seamless process.

A unique welcome

I arrived in Arnhem on December 31st and witnessed the most spectacular fireworks there. Since the sale of fireworks to private individuals is prohibited in 2026, this was truly something special to experience for the last time. In the future, only organized city events for fireworks will be permitted. What made this trip extra special was the record amount of snow in the Netherlands.

It was heartwarming to see the joy of the locals, from young to old, as they were sledding, building snowmen, and cycling through the snow. However, this record amount of snow also had logistical consequences, such as a major impact on the public transport schedule. Because the NS was running an adjusted timetable, my appointment to collect my residence permit had to be rescheduled a few times. Without hesitation, Seeker was ready to reschedule these appointments on my behalf.

A place to live

Additionally, Seeker helped me find a wonderful place to live even before I arrived in the Netherlands. This took away a lot of stress; I had the security of a home before I even landed in this beautiful country. I didn’t have to search myself, didn’t have to worry about potential scammers, and didn’t run the risk of arriving at a property that didn’t match the photos in terms of size or interior. I now live in a very central neighborhood in Arnhem, with all the shops, public transport, and parks less than a 15-minute walk away. By bike, it’s even significantly shorter!

Speaking the language

Seeker has also supported me in taking online Dutch lessons at A1-A2 level to improve my written and oral mastery of the language. Since my arrival in the Netherlands, they have also provided me with specific financial training focused on the Dutch market. I can recommend Seeker to any professional who wants to make the move from South Africa to the Netherlands. They have supported my dream and vision of working in the Netherlands every step of the way.
